The area of focus and commitment is “Salesian apostolic educative action, in its various expressions”. This variety of expressions includes both the essential contents and the aims of the pastoral educative service of the Congregation (cf. Const. 31-39), and the activities and works through which we carry out our mission, that is to say: the oratory and the youth centre, the school and the professional centres, the institutions of higher education, the boarding schools and the homes for youth-at- risk, the parish and sanctuary entrusted to the Salesians, centres specialised in pedagogical and catechetical service, houses of spirituality and other activities and works that “aim at the salvation of youth” (cf. Const. 42; R 11-15; 25-30).

Among these activities and works ‘the Frame of Reference for Youth Ministry’ (chap. VII) has also placed services and works in the various Salesian environments that respond to the new urgencies of youth and have a strong educative and pastoral impact: the vocation ministry programmes ( Aspirantates; Live-in Community experiences, vocational discernment centres); the specialised services of Christian formation and spiritual animation (houses of spirituality and retreats; centres of pastoral and catechetical formation); the associations and animation services in the field of leisure time, such as schools of leisure Time and Sociocultural Animation, sport, tourism, music and theatre; the Salesian Youth Movement.

“AIM AT THE SALVATION OF YOUTH”

(CF. CONST. 42; R 11-15; 25-30)

With Don Bosco International (DBI) and Salesian Presence at the United Nations (SDB-UN) ensure the Congregation’s contribution to the work of ecclesial and civil organizations committed at world level to the education of young people and youth ministry. To foster communication and cooperation between the Offices representing the Congregation at International Institutions and the General Council, Provinces and other entities promoted by the Congregation.

The three lines of intervention outlined in art. 136 – to animate, guide and assist the Provinces in the development of their projects and pastoral commitments – find throughout the constitutional text the contents on which to work: education, catechesis, associational activities, liturgical initiation, vocational guidance, pastoral criteria and the preparation of workers (Const. 31-48) are different aspects of a single commitment; the Department, in addition to providing guidance, accompanies and supports the individual provinces in the realisation of the concretisations that the General Regulations indicate, among which the elaboration of the provincial and local educational project takes on particular importance (cf. Reg 4-10). where this commitment should be framed.
